What is a caricature?
A caricature is either a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness, or in literature, a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others. Caricatures can be insulting or complimentary and can serve a political purpose or be drawn solely for entertainment. Caricatures of politicians are commonly used in editorial cartoons, while caricatures of movie stars are often found in entertainment magazines.The term is derived from the Italian caricare - to charge or load.
What is a digital caricature?
A digital caricature is a caricature drawn using the artistic skills with the help of a computer.
Usually drawn using software like Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and Freehand plus the help of a tablet, an electronic pencil and the mouse. If you are looking for hand drawn caricatures, we recommend www.mycaricature.com.
Are your caricatures computer generated?
No, they are not. There have been efforts to produce caricatures automatically or semi-automatically using computer graphics techniques.There are very few software programs designed specifically for automatically creating caricatures, and they are not successful at all.
An interesting aspect of some computer graphic systems is that by necessity they require quite different skillsets to caricatures created on paper. Thus using a computer in the digital production of caricatures requires advanced knowledge of the program’s functionality. Rather than being a simpler method of caricature creation, it can be a more complex method of creating images that feature finer coloring textures than can be created using more traditional methods.
How long does it take to complete an order?
It takes us between 5 to 9 days to complete a personal caricature order. In case you need it sooner, please let us know after you place the order online. Before Christmas it can take up to 3 weeks to complete a caricature, as it is such a popular Christmas gift.
